Kalamazoo Forward Ventures formally introduced itself at a launch event on Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2024, at the Kalamazoo Country Club, announcing a $50 million capital commitment aimed at underrepresented founders, entrepreneurs and innovators. The firm said it will deploy capital through three separate vehicles: a Venture Capital fund for early investments in high-growth startups, a Forward Real Estate fund for residential and mixed-use development with an emphasis on affordable and workforce housing, and a Main Street fund for local Southwest Michigan businesses. Alongside money, the partners pledged connections and operating expertise.

Bobby J. Hopewell, a former Kalamazoo mayor and a KZFV general partner, framed the fund as an investment in people and communities rather than ideas alone, while managing partner Eric L. Wimbley called it a day of opportunity for entrepreneurs unable to find startup capital. Founded in 2024, KZFV names as principals Jamauri A. Bogan of Bogan Developments, former City Commissioner Eric B. Cunningham, Hopewell, Dwayne Powell Jr. of UAE Workforce Solutions, Von H. Washington Jr. of Hugo Consulting, Wimbley, and Newmind Group founder Daniel S. Jefferies.
